Follow the Journey of the Youth in Landscapes Initiative Restoration Stewards

By Vania Olmos Lau, IUCN CEM Young Professional.

In 2019 at UNFCCC COP25, the Youth in Landscapes Initiative Steering Committee was lucky to meet in person. We dreamt about what we wanted to do in 2020, in light of the upcoming UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. We agreed we wanted to help youth on-the-ground. After a year-long path, we can proudly share we have selected six Restoration Stewards!

Each one of them works on and represents a diverse landscape. Throughout the next year, they will receive a monetary grant, technical advice from experts and media coverage to scale up their work. Climb Costa Rica’s montane forests, explore Indonesia’s coral reefs, discover the mangroves of the Philippines, join the Maasai women in Kenyan drylands, find your path in the forests of Argentina and reconnect with nature in the peatlands of Indonesia. The Restoration Stewards will take us on a journey around the world to show how young people are taking action on the ground to restore the Earth!

If you would like to follow their journey, you can read their blogs and join them on their social media channels.
